Just got some change including several £2 coins. One however is an old 1965 two shilling with the outer portion sprayed gold to match a £2 coin.
On first glance it passes muster in a handful of change.
Full marks to the person who thought of this

I've never seen one before, but it's apparently quite common

Florin 28.5mm and 11.3g
£2. 28.4mm and 12.0g

Years ago you could stick silver insulation board tape on a !0p piece, stick it in a fruit machine etc, and because of the weight it would measure 50p.

So I'm told

Even more years ago a French arcade machine could be persuaded a 2p was a 10 franc coin

The campsites of rural france have never experienced so many completions of golden axe and shinobi, or so I am told.

Years ago fruit machines and arcade games could be fooled using a length of strimmer wire with a loop formed on one end wink

Years ago, at a local british legion club if you wore trainers and shuffled your feet on the floor vigerously then touched the money slot with the coin you were holding you got a free spin. Machines were only in for a week or two before being removed, finger pointing at quite a few people on the fiddle, us pesky kids kept very quiet.

And a shilling turned into a Deutschmark. Fill up a one arm bandit with shilling coins, press coin return and

move on to the next Kneipe

And to think that I felt like Public Enemy # 1, when I was feeding Canadian quarters into the jukebox in a bar on Flatlands Ave. Canarsie NYC, between E.96th and Rockaway Parkway in the late eighties.

So I'm told
It also apparently worked on Tyneside Metro ticket machines. Fake 50 in, select a 10p child care, get your ticket and 40p change. Allegedly.

When that was discovered, Bell Fruit machines had a blade built in to cut it!

Years ago, a mate of mine, Murphy used to forge 10p coins by filing the corners off 50p coins till they were round.

When backpacking some years ago (pre-Euro) we discovered quite by chance that our left-over Greek Drachma coins (I forget which) were almost identical to Australian dollars. Many 'free' games of pool were had in the pubs of New South Wales biggrin

My local pub has been in the same family since 1967 albeit it’s gone down a generation.

On the anniversary they get in 1960’s drinks such as snowballs, babycham, mild beer and bitter etc. They sell it all at the 1967 price list BUT, you have to pay in old money £,s,d. So the coin in question will more than buy me a pint, the bitter is 1/6 which gives me 6d in change.

You need to be of a certain age to understand all that.

To clarify my 1/6 pint equates to 7 1/2 pence.

Days ago, my mate's mates in their caravan went through a village pulling on each door trying to see who forgot to lock theirs. Those were the days.

We used to wrap half crowns up in brown paper and pass them off as pennies.

No we didn't.

Years ago someone slipped me a Hong Kong 5 dollar coin in change; it resembled an original large 50p coin but with ten sides instead of seven. I eventually got rid of it (accidentally whistle) in a car park ticket machine for 50p worth of credit.
