AWD hack for £1500 - 2k?
Discussion
Just want something to hack about in during the Winter months with a bit of room to throw stuff in.
Suzuki SX4 / Fiat Sidici?
Skoda?
Jag?
Panda?
Have had a Justy, Forester, RVR and Volvo before now and did have a Toyota Raum lined up for this, but it got burnt out!
Anything else I am missing which won't die after a few months?

Honda CR-V should be in that age/price band with a decent amount of room. Also, bit leftfield and possibly out of budget but a lit of Jap import stuff has 4wd, look at Mitsubishi Delicia, Nissan Elgrand etc.
Opps, had a CRV and an HRV. Not exactly off the list, but just fancied something different. Cheers for the other suggestions, though! All sorts of things to choose from, but a quick 'top of the head' list of things not yet mentioned:
VW 4motion (Golf or Passat) or Audi A3/4/6 Quattro, or Skoda Octavia 4x4 thing
Freelander 1
Discovery
Small Suzukis of various flavours
Scooby Forrester
Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee (avoid the 2.5td XJ Cherry)
You should be able to find half decent examples of each of those within budget

Fiat Sedici is a decent car, same as the SX4 but with a Fiat badge, and cheaper than the Suzuki. Think of it as a jacked up 4x4 swift. The Fiat ones tended to have the 4wd system fitted as standard, was an option on the Suzuki. Chain cam 1.6 engine, pretty reliable. Go for the ones with the silver roof bars, better spec inside.
Ssangyong Rexton (these use Mercedes running gear)

friend of mine had one of these. He used to say the same. EVERY TIME HE SPOKE ABOUT THE CAR!!I’ve got a B5.5 Audi A4 avant. It’s a 2.5tdi Quattro and for an old cheap car it’s lovely. The v6 is super quiet and smooth, it’s got a nice enough 6 speed box, electric recaros and pretty much all the mod cons that matter. In the 16,000 miles since I last reset the trip it’s averaged 41.4mpg and that includes quite a lot of towing my near 2 ton boat and motorbikes on a fairly large trailer.
I had a B6 1.8 20vt Quattro before and the B5.5 is a much better put together car.
Definitely worth considering.

Just a quick update...
Purely because it was cheap, ugly (?) and quirky, I am due to pick this up shortly!
Clearly having a bit of room went out the window!!

You could keep that special looking exterior and turn it into a saveagly powerful machine. Drop in a big block with super charger. Purely because it was cheap, ugly (?) and quirky, I am due to pick this up shortly!

Or even get into proper off-roading - I’m pretty sure a few of he chaps who do that sort of stuff love the challenge of what appears to be a s
t car and take it to the normal big boys. £150car with a £30k engine drive train and massive travel suspension

The 1.6 will have to do for now, though.
