Hi all,

First thread in this section so go easy on me!

I only really found out about 'bet matching' yesterday, after doing some research it looks maybe like I've missed the boat with this?

I just wanted to know if people are still bet matching and making money from it, or if the bookies have caught on to this heavily and have things in place to either make it very difficult (i.e. not worth the time for the little money involved) or to stop it complete.

I have looked into doing the 25 starting offers where it is possible to make £600 a month, is this out of date now or still relevant?

If you are still doing it, roughly how much time do you spend per week and how much profit are you making?

It seems like the more cash your able to put into this (to cover liability I believe?) the more profit is made? If this is true and effectively 'risk free' I'm tempted to stick a little bit of cash in to this.

Whilst not a constructive answer to your question;

To me, Betting and "Risk Free" does not exist. If it did, I'm sure there would be hundreds of people doing this for a living but it simply isn't happening. If you can afford to risk and potentially lose those funds I would stick them in a S&S Isa personally.

I understand the risk in the term of Bet Matching to be making a mistake, your not "gambling" as such, but if you get an odd wrong or at the wrong time, then there is a potential to lose money.

I'm not talking huge somes of money here, theres a few guides starting from £10/£25/£100 which I may try first, I'm not planning on putting X amount per month into something like this

Simple answer - you've missed the boat.

I started in 2012 and caught the end of the glory days - I was making about £30k a year tax free, mostly over weekends when all the sport was on.
Unfortunately, bans came thick and fast from the bookies and the offers dried up towards the end of 2014/maybe into 2015.

I gave it up after this as the effort to reward ratio became a lot greater. Not to say money can't still be made, but don't expect to be able to do it as a full time job like you used to!

Bet Matching, or Matched Betting as it is more commonly known, is (more like was, really, but I digress...) in fact a risk free way to earning money.
If you make mistakes with the maths or timings then it can cost you thousands, but the risk is really only there if you make mistakes (they can also go in your favour, but anyway!).

The usual response when they hear about it is like you have above, but that is because they don't understand it (not trying to offend you here!).
There are hundreds of people that do it for a living, though - albeit nowhere near as many as would have done when it was more viable.

Nowadays it isn't worth the effort, in my opinion - but feel free to give it a google smile

The only risk in matched betting is that you mess up; it involves making use of promotional net offers to bet one way cheaply then a conventional bet to bet the other way, with a guaranteed payoff.

It never seemed worth it to me, a lot of effort and tracking for not much of a return.

This.

Very similar path. Glory days were a fair bit prior to 2010. What screwed the market was the websites that sprung up offering to tell you how to make money matched betting for a fee and basically all the information you need is free if you are prepared to put the leg work in and look for it, but those paying websites pander to the lazy/gullible of which there are many out there. The upshot was millions of people piled into it bookies got wise, reduced the offers to relatively little amounts and built programs to sniff out a matched better from a thousand yards. I have had bookie accounts that have lasted 2 bets before they send an email regarding "liability management" after which you are restricted to very small bets, or in the case of BetVictor a bet of £0.00 was above the maximum allowed! LOL. You can make a bit of money for sure, but don't quit your day job.

You're describing the opposite of matched betting hehe

Cheers for all the replies, seems like I have missed out, shame I wasn't born a few years earlier then I might of caught it!

I did some more research last night, joined the "team profit" facebook group and theres quite a lot of stories on their of people coming out with 600/1000 a month still. Theres a guide on their website to go from £25 to £1000 in 2 month with welcome offers, so I decided to give that a try, started out with my first offer last night and made £9, seems a pretty straight forward process so we'll see how it goes.

If you can get decent opening offers from bookies you don't have anything to lose, if you do the maths right that is. It is not hard. Free money still. I was a member of Profit Maximiser on facebook, worth the money although it did contribute to killing the whole thing I suspect.

I made a few thousand from it late 2016 early 2017.
Then my accounts started to get closed and the only real way to make money was from accumulators which are not guaranteed.
There is the odd Bet365 risk free bet which you can often make £35 on for very little work.

I did this a couple of years ago and it was possible to make some cash from the opening offers and recurring offers, but it took a fair bit of time and I stopped doing it for that reason.

One of my mates still does it and gets lots of regular offers andf makes some nice pocket money from it.

One of the main issues I had was opening an account to take advantage of the promotional bonus - betting on a horse or similar that I thought had no chance of winning (eg. at odds of 9 or higher) - horse duly wins and I have a large amount in my betting account (and hardly anything left in my exchange so need to invest more) - this happenend a couple of times, then the bookie gets suspicious that I am a 'professional' and they start restricting my bet size massively which makes it very hard to roll over the amount needed to withdraw or to 'lose' enough to get it back into exchange account. Then they ban you from future promotions.....

Working in the betting industry the company i work for has automatic checkers on match betting or arbing as we call it which looks at all the prices across the other main betting companies and when they see an arbing opportunity they automatically change the odd so you can't arb with us.

Sorry i think you've missed the boat.

I agree, it's still worth doing the sign up offers. I joined Profit Accumulator in early 2016 and would echo what lost in espace said - worth the money (for the education) but definitely contributed to the decline (sorry!!).

The sign up offers will probably get you £1-2k. Beyond that, it may still be possible to make £600-£1k per month, if you chase every offer, all the time, including the casino and bingo offers and make sure you place plenty of "mug" bets so your accounts don't get restricted.

I can't be @rsed with all that, so that's why I stopped. I managed to keep most of my bookie accounts, so I'll still play along when I feel like it (Bet365 offers as mentioned above) but I do find it gets tiresome very quickly these days!!
