Hi.

I had a thought today.

As I was approaching a roundabout at the end of a dual carriageway, I slowed from 60mph and entered the roundabout at 31mph.

I then saw as I went round the bend a speed camera van facing back my way. My speed I would imagine was ok, but I have never seen one of these vans on the roundabout above a motorway before.

What is the speed limit, if any for a roundabout above a motorway that you join the motorway from.

Regards.

Dave.

What did the sign say?

No sign then it doesn't have a different limit from the rest of the road you are on.

Hi.
Thanks for reply. There is no sign there, it’s just straight of the dual carriageway and onto roundabout to go down onto motorway.

Dave.

It’s just a roundabout above a motorway in between or joining 2 dual carriageways.

No ideas for a name

I assume you have a van.
In which case 60 on DC, 70 on Motorway.
Further assuming there were no other restrictions on the DC you came off.
Were the signs on the roundabout blue or green?
Some roundabouts are technically part of the Motorway.

Hi.

I have a Hilux, so yes, 70 motorway, 60 Dual Carriageway, 50 Dual Carriageway if signed 60mph.

No signs on Roundabout, its just straight round and down onto motorway.

The camera was not for cars on DC, which I was ok there anyway, slowing from 60 as I approached roundabout. The van was on roundabout above motorway as you enter roundabout to go round onto motorway. Its not a small roundabout I must say.

I`m just curious as to speed limit there, if there is one at all, there are no signs that I saw as I go onto roundabout.

I would say if no change of limit signs, then the existing limit on the dual carriageway continues around the roundabout. I would say that technically a roundabout by definition has a division between the carriageways (although it is round), so is still a dual carriageway.

Two questions;
1) Is it a dual purpose vehicle - and therefore subject to 'car' speed limits? Link to the legislation here if you can make sense of it.
2) I haven't come across the "50 Dual Carriageway if signed 60mph" before. Is that true?

Whatever... it looks to me like you haven't done anything wrong driving at 60.

Hi.

Thanks for reply.

My Hilux is over 2 tons, so, 60 in a 70 on DC. But, if a single carriageway is sign posted 60, I can only do 50mph. Other pickups are ok, I suppose its down to the weight of a Hilux.

My speed was fine, its just strange seeing a camera van on the roundabout, I was wondering what they were trying to achieve. That's why I questioned speed limits for those roundabouts across motorways, I was only doing 31mph, I suppose they were trying to catch people tanking it onto the roundabout at unacceptable speeds.

Was it shooting motorists on the motorway out of its side aperture?

Hey, didn't think of that, nice one, now I think about it, the rear windows facing the traffic were not open.

Regards.
