Micra Stuff
Is this the car you'll swap your TVR for?
Discussion
From what I have seen of the new Micra (in the press) it looks a lot more interesting than some of the other new small cars around, an example being the new Fiesta and Fusion.
But looking at the C-C thing, would a tall drivers head not be very close to the top of the A-pillar? Or is that just the impression from the picture.

Thank God for the new Micra! The sector of the finance industry which supplies loans to 17 year old secretaries would fold in weeks if Nissan stopped making it.
We've all got to start somewhere...
Too true - good point.
The question is why start with a new Micra when you can have something much more interesting for a lot less money. My wife's first car was an Astra GTE she bought for 1100 quid - why be boring? This is a site for enthusiasts isn't it?

This site is... but there are others who will buy the car, but for different reasons. Some people want the comfort of a warranty, others want a new car... so go for the deals as they offer insurance - fancy being 17 and trying to insure a hot hatch? No thanks...
It's all horses for courses... depends on your needs and wants. To some driving is an A-to-B thing... others (notably us lot) see it as more than that...

My point is that if you can find the readies to buy something new and dull then you can spend the same money on something slightly secondhand and interesting and the insurance. Imaging driving an secondhand Porsche/Lotus/TVR instead of a new Puma...
OK, I'm sorry. I have to admit that I have no idea why people spend all that extra cash on something just to have a new car rather than buy something a few years old. None of the reasons stand up as far as I'm concerned, but then I do see this as a problem with my outlook rather than with everyone else. My brother bought a new Laguna and everyone but me thinks he did the right thing - seems expensive and dull to me, but that's my problem. :ImafreakshootmeImtoomalajustedtocommunicatewithpeoplewithmoney:
Why do I like this new Micra?
Well a Micra was my first car, the bubble shaped one. It was a good little runner and through its life I thought it was quite adept. Also the handling was decent for such a lowly hatchback.
Now there is another new Micra, or March in Japan. It also seems the powerplants are getting a revisement too - there's going to be a 1.4 litre 98bhp engine for it, which should make it fun, and also an E-4WD system. hell, they are also planning a one-make race series for it. Good for you Nissan, if its reliable as past Micra's you've got another winner.

I'll reiterate my point - it depends on your needs, wants and circumstances.
Why did I buy a new Puma?
1) I work for Ford and get a discount
2) It's cheap to insure
3) It's cheap to run and reliable
4) TVR insurance under 25 is bloody expensive
Do I want a TVR? Yes I do... and intend to buy a secondhand one in the new year... the circumstances were not right for me, henc e anew car was a more viable option...

Podie - Sorry, I am incapable of being persuaded on this one, it's a mental block I have. No amount of reasoned argument, however fair, will convince me that buying new cars is value for money compared to second-hand. [I'm not being sarcastic here]
This is a forum for debate and if I'm not willing to listen to the other side of the argument I really ought to keep my mouth shut. Good luck with the TVR.

Captain M - OK, your call...! Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Oh, did I mention that I get 25% discount on Ford's? Does this make more sense?
25% off certainly takes the sting out of depriciation...
Still - you could have had a 1991 CRX VTec for a couple of grand which beats the Puma in every respect bar newness and Fordness. :duckingforcover:

you're taking the piss.... my Dads wife had a CRX and it was merrily rusting away by the time she got rid of it..
Would you like to buy a SH puma then as the depreciations much less of an issue:

Rusty? Mine is an 1989 with 110000miles and isn't rusty at all. Eats brakes on track days though.
Tempting though it is to spend an extra six grand to trade up to a slower, heavier car, I think I'll pass.
Captain M - think Matt was just trying to sell his car, now his Chim has arrived!
CRX is a compentant little car, and one of the best shapes to come out of the Honda stable.
My discount enabled me to run the Fiesta and sell it for what I paid for it, having run up 10k on the clock... HOPEFULLY I'll be able to do the same with the Puma. Therefore economically it makes sense for me...

err so knowing yours is an '89 its got the D15B engine in it as opposed to the B16A engine.. therefore that gives you a peak power of 130 bhp at 6800rpm, and a maximum torque of 141Nm at 5200rpm plus the car will weigh 1080kg.
I don't have figures to hand for 0-60 on your car, but for the superior D15B engine its 8.9 seconds.
And the Puma:
125 hp @ 6300 rpm
157 Nm @ 4500 rpm
weighs 1050kg
0-60 8.4 sec.
Therefore slower= Wrong
heavier= Wrong..
Matt.
