I think with the ipad it's all about response, refresh rate, the feel of the interaction. It has to be as friction-less as possible. Using the pencil is laggy. Until it feels like writing on paper, the ipad is not finished.
Agree with most, but the pencil is certainly not laggy at all on my Pro 10.5 let alone the new one.As for the new one it would be nice if the 12.9 was virtually bezel free and thus not as unwieldy as I felt the old 12.9 to be, which is why I ended up with the 10.5.
Doubt they would be changing the iPad from iOS to macOS anytime soon if ever.
Its basically a large mobile phone and nothing more.
I wish Apple would bring out a Surface Pro competitor, but when they cant even be arsed to offer a touchscreen MacBook Pro, what hope have you of buying a 32GB RAM, 1TB, i7/9 tablet to compete with MS.
I would be all over it like a rash and the only reason I moved to Windows again was that Apple has no tablet to compete and look like they never will unless this new one is a massive step outside of the box from the current approach Apple has.

Yep... just one that uses a decent OS ;-(
No such thing these days IMO, I've used the lot...Win10 - highly flexible, powerful, bloated, buggy, crap updates
MacOS - Nice enough looking but really no better these days than Windows to use, worse in some respects
IOS - fast, lean and polished, very restricted
Android - now effectively dead on tablets, app support poor
ChromeOS - fast, lean and secure, restricted
Linux - problematic depending on hardware, nerds only

They should make an iPad Pro that runs Mac os
I'd be all over that. You can add a keyboard to the pro.. You can save files locally... Just not in a Windows Explorer type way, but not really sure why you would want to on an ipad...

...and no, a MacBook air is nothing like an iPad pro running MacOS. Surprised that I have to spell that out tbh.
