I have 2012 combo 1.3 L2 van I have recently purchased, I have noticed their appears to be a rattle coming from the engine bay. I thought something may of been loose but I can't see anything obvious. What do you think from the video below? it was a bit windy, is it normal for the idle speed to increase on these when you press the clutch down? the rattle also increase when I do that.

It is a diesel, it proves it is working.

1.3 is a horrible engine, wouldnt have one about me.

Although they are extremely common. Certainly older ones used to throw rods out the side of the block and st timing chains quite often.

Whether slightly newer ones are the same, no idea.

Obviously couldn't hear what I could hear in that video, try this one

It seems to be coming from around the drive belt area, not sure if it is the drive belt tensioner or the chain. Took it to a garage and he had a quick look, he thought it sounded like it was coming from across the top of the engine and maybe an injector.

Is it a diesel? The base engine noise sounds diesely. The rattle sounds slower than engine speed, although it is hard to judge. You could be looking for something in the valve train, or an ancillary bearing failing. A mechanic's stethoscope can be very helpful tracking down this sort of noise.

Possibly a damaged aux belt, or a worn bearing on something driven by the aux belt: tensioner, aircon pump etc. Those engines sound catastrophic close up anyway, a proper bag of spanners.
