1 year old Main Dealer second hand BMW negotiation
Discussion
Hi all .ok 1 year old BMWs at a main dealer costing say £27k any idea how much the salesman would be prepared to drop.Realising if they drop a lot they may get you PX wise.....but I have no idea what the perameters are .Has the internet made the sticker price very keen already? On my miles sadly I cant go PCP again on a new car its a step too far as Im now on on about 35/40k a year,So HP it is.I would re finance my 330d but its Euro 5 and our wonderful Mayor Sad Khant is going to hammer me if I keep it mid 2019. Been a great car
Thanks
Thanks

£27k sounds cheap for a 1 year old M5. Just bite their hand off at £27k.Thanks

BMW will have a spreadsheet and a cascading ‘discount’ applied based on how long it’s been there.
I bought a 1yr 5k mile 335xd for similar money and paid asking, but pushed a px value to the highest possible.
In the end if you’re after a specific spec etc then you’ll be waiting forever if you want to haggle too.

Hello Mr Whippy...thanks...berrys brentford nearest dealer funny enough, has a lovely year old blue 335d with my option i have too have a sunroof...just wondering what the xdrive se suspension is like these days the lci seems to be far better from posts I have read..the standard suspension in mine was awful even without x drive changed it to ACS springs and shocks
The main factor I believe is how long they've had it. There will be other considerations too however if they've not had it long then good luck getting anything off it. Last year when I bought my F11 535i they wouldn't budge from sticker even though I was being as hard ball as I could. They had only got it in a few days before and had a lot of interest (although don't they all say that?). Its a rare model and was well priced so I just had to accept that.
3 weeks earlier the same approach got me £800 off a £15k 520d at a different dealer, I assume they had it on the forecourt a few weeks in order to get that much off.

Smashy, (at the risk of me getting banned from this site), if you are a bit stretched financially, should you not consider a more modest car even if it is not a BMW?Locknut said:

Fair point Locknut but not the issue the issue is my mileage is all over the place one week a 1000 next 600 for example as you know you need a mileage to go on a PCP mine is too up and down to make a figure and the most BMW do is 30 (maybe 35) which makes it expensive and maybe not enough. The other thing to consider is a new one in the showroom - say you're looking at a 320d, showroom cars are owned by the dealership and you can get some stonking deals on those. When I sold cars at Stratstone we'd be selling them at not far off 1 yr old used prices to shift the metal. You need to be flexible of colour/spec though.

Thanks isore...and Locknut im looking for inspiration genuinly asking what decent car can I get new for around 27k that has an engine like my 330d that can go like hell when needed and last 2 weeks has 51.5mpg on the obc.....because the apr on a new car would be far better than used ..so come on get your thinking cap on ??

I am not in the British market so I don't have a feel for what is available there, but I can tell you that where I am the Skoda Octavia can be good value. It comes with a VAG (read Audi) engine, gearbox and floor pan. There are RS versions with great performance and they can be speced-up with as many toys as you like, and they still cost a lot less than a 320d.
Depends on the dealer situation and the car.
I got my 335i Touring at 6 months old down from £38000 to £32000, I got the E350 estate down from £28000 to £23500.
Then when Fiona wanted an X3 we searched everywhere for an SE with sport seats and pano roof and we found one at 12 months old for £26950 and the very, very best we could get from them was £26500 and swap the tyres for non run flats.
Depends what they have paid for it, depends what their targets are etc.
My old man has been looking for X5s, 2 months ago no real haggling to be done, all of a sudden they are coming back offering £3-4k off, maybe it is because the new one is arriving.
At the end of the day, surely it is what it will cost you over the period you want it?
A found my old man a 2015 Cayenne, it was £43000 with a huge spec, £15000 more than the X5s, but because of residuals and a much better apr it was going to cost him £220 a month over 48 months compared to £450 a month for the X5.

I got zero discount when buying a 21k F25 X3 30d from Cooper BMW. No extra on original quoted trade in either. The car was £3k more expensive a day earlier and we saw it just at the price dropped. The car still had the £24k price tag on it. I was an idiot and basically gave away too much about wanting the car but there was no sight of movement from the dealer.

Not surprised you didn't get any discount as they dropped it by £3k the day before!I should have added smashy, I meant if you can get a new car with like the 330d for just over £30k just do the PCP for the standard 12k a year or whatever the deal is, and then trade it before the 48 months is up.
Or lower your balloon, so do say 48 months with only a £6k balloon, don't miss out on 1.9% apr and £10000 contribution because you don't think you can do PCP.
I do 30k a year and always tell them I will do 10k a year.

Gizlaroc...now THAT is interesting.and thanks for it...but trading in with say 150k on it instead of 40k surely the car will not be worth anything like the balloon that is left ? Massive negative equity? 3 months to go on my 4 year deal 20% less miles on it than put on pcp but its worth about the same px or wbac as I owe imagine if it had 100k mor miles on it !

Good point. We bought a 6 month old 118i that was discounted from £23k to £17k. Packed with extras as it was a demo car. It had 3k miles on it IIRC and it was from Stratstone!Edited by iSore on Friday 17th August 17:29

That is not what I am saying. Take a 6 months old 330d Touring at £30,000.
It will cost you around £547 a month over 60 months on an HP agreement with £3000 deposit.
Take that same car as brand new and do it on PCP, with the finance contribution and 1.9% apr, with £3000 down it would be..
£556 a month over 48 months with a £1000 balloon.
You save yourself around £5000 in interest over the period and in 4 years time it is yours, you own it.
Guranteed Final Value is great if everything is equal, but this is where people get caught out.
Most PCP agreements people end up paying as much as the GFV in extra interest.
