Hi,

I am currently looking at leasing a VW Golf GTI Performance 5 Dr DSG.

My mileage requirements are pretty high at 20k (my commute yearly will be around 18k) therefore my lease costs are dearer than usual.

Currently i am getting quotes between £410 - £480 for a 3+35 lease agreement at 20k MPA. I would prefer a 3+23 if i can find a good enough price.

I have two questions:

1. What would the maintenance on the GTI be like for the mileage i willl be doing? i am wondering whether its worth getting the maintenance package the lease companies offer which ranges from £55 - £90 a month.
2. I have been told that in some cases the excess charge per mile is actually cheaper than the initial increased cost for a higher mileage lease? However most quotes don’t provide the excess mileage charge straight away or say TBC.

Any comments would be appreciated, especially if you have any advice if you have owned or have experience with this model.

Kind regards,

Peeby

Have you looked at Nationwide Vehicle Contracts? They have them with Met Paint on a 3+23 at 20k for £417 inc VAT .

With regard maintenance and weighing up excess mile charge, it is really just a case of asking your broker for the costs and doing the maths.

Yes i saw that. The 3+35 is also £400.70 i believe. However it is a 12 weeks delivery time and i need it within 6. I can possibly wait the 12 weeks.

Also when i rang them they said the wait was for a new model of the GTI Performance and i asked for the difference in specs. They said check the VW website however there isnt any information on there about a new model and the advisor i spoke to on the live chat didnt know anything either ...?

There is no new model of the GTI performance. Next iteration will be when the mk8 arrives in 2019/2020. I suspect the broker might be talking about models in stock/built vs factory build?

Probably the difference between current pre-reg stock and waiting for the new WLTP emissions tested models to become available.

Will these new WLTP tested models have a reduction in power or be more efficienct? Im guessing there will be no actual changes between the current model and the model post WLTP tests?

On a 3+35 at 410 a month that’s over 15 grand to rent one.

I would seriously consider buying used. You can get a 16 plate for around the 18k mark.

After 3 years and say it’s on 85-90k it will be worth 7K at least.

Take into account 200 a year for a 3rd party warranty you are still up

I see what you're saying but leasing is the best option for me atm. Anyone have any idea if a excess mile charge can be changed throughout a lease. Its working cheaper on a lease deal i am looking at to pay for less mileage upfront and pay for the excess mile charge but is it always at a set amount from the start of the contract?
