So I’ve just got back to my car and found a note on it.

“Bright red Ferrari scraped your car- Reg XXX XXX
We have it on film”

I’ve spoken to the note leaver who is popping round shortly but said it was an elderly driver who was trying to go the wrong way down a one way street, and clattered my car in his way out.

Police on 101, insurance company or just suck it up? I’ve had bad experiences with insurance companies previously and tend not to involve them unless necessary.

Any advice appreciated.

(Mine is a 2006 330i touring with the elusive manual ‘box so I am quite attached.)

Ideally you'd be able to go through their insurance to save yours taking the piss bumping up your premium for a non fault claim and having to front any refundable excess. Obviously you don't know who the owner or insurer is but if you could find out that would be a good start as I don't think the police will tell you anything, but those avenues may be able to route the incident through the driver's insurer.

I was hit when parked but the perpetrator ignored my calls after I asked for cash which was a fraction of the repair quote so went through my insurance. £500 to the garage out of pocket while I waited for presumably my insurer to claim of the other, plus £30 on my premium.

I don't know how much notice your local force takes of no injury hit and runs but the driver has committed an offence, you have the reg number of the offending vehicle and a witness with video (he's presumably willing to share with plod) so I'd dial 101 in the first instance. Be prepared for a wait.

I was just about to post the same question... my daughter's been hit whilst she was parked and sitting in her car, a woman hit the front and then refused to acknowledge the fact and walked off !

I'd rather deal with her insurers direct than involve my daughters - is that even possible with her denying all knowledge and refusing to give her details ?

Asshats who hit your car and just try and drive off deserve everything they get. Lowest of the low in my books.

I wouldn't expect the police would do anything, but I'd definitely go through their insurance.

Call 101 and report it. Presumably your daughter had the presence of mind to take the registration number?

Get into askmid who will furnish you with the details of the third party insurer from the reg of the Ferrari.

Contact them and tell them you have video evidence of their insured hitting your car.

They should make enquiries with him and then get back to you. If he admits liability they will repair your car and give you a like for like hire car without you having to lift a finger.

But be prepared for the obvious difficulty in proving what happened, unless there is video evidence or independent witnesses. Police and insurers are unlikely to be interested otherwise.

Your daughter needs photographic evidence of both cars. Make an insurance claim ASAP, any witnesses?

I'm not seeing the issue with what Lonely said. The daughter was in the car, so she saw it, but with no one to back her up and no other evidence, it could be hard work if the other driver goes for the "not me guv" option.

OP is in a much stronger position.

Crossed lines here. The op has a witness and video evidence.

V8RX whatever it was’s daughter doesn’t.
