What’s the light for?

I removed the drivers door rest to gain access to the non working cigarette lighter on my 94 Griff 500. Just as I pulled it clear a Red wire with a bulb in a metal shroud fell out....there is no obvious place it could have came from as there is no courtesy light on the door. The shroud looks like it would click into something which must have an earth ....as when I earthed it the light came on. Anyone any idea??
