Hypothetical question here. What happens if you have x amount of years no claims bonus and its protected and you get a renewal but for whatever reason you dont need to renew the insurance immediately. Can you ring them up 6 months later and still keep the protected no claims and carry on from where you left off? do you have to prove you were not with another company in the interim?

One situation i can think of is if you had to claim on a policy you took with a new company and lost your no claims you could go back topreious company and start a new policy, this makes me believe they will not let you take any breaks or gaps anybody have any idea what the rules are?

Not sure, but don't many large Ins companies have a "shared" database? albeit: not perfect.

Must be someone out there with Insurance knowledge?

IIRC you can keep your no claims for 2 years, for example if you work abroad in the meantime..

Most insurance cmpanies allow a 2 year grace period. Privilege allowed my wife 3 years.
