Right, 3 scenarios.

You have £10k spare, what would you do to mulitply it?

You have £20k spare, what would you do to multiply it?

You have £50k spare, what would you do to multiply it?

Early morning here and was just asked the same questions and wondered, if given the opportunity, what others would do.

Cheers

Probably shove it in a bank account.

Give up my job. Use the cash as living money whilst starting up a small software house. By containing living expenses and investment expenses make the cash last eighteen months - long enough for the business to start generating profit. Live lean times for a further two years and then enjoy the proceeds.

I wouldn't. I'd buy a Porsche.

Did he do body repairs to other types of plant?

Was he a bigger digger rigger and a dumper bumper thumper?

I'd spend it on booze, fags and women and then pretend I was a millionnaire on internet forums.

Very good photocopier and special paper with water marks. Alternatively the price of smuggled cocaine is quite a good.

If it has to be legal, invest in land. Supply is quite limited.

Actually Towman and Tonker have some good ideas there. Skip hire is a tough business and the margins aint great. Tipping legitimately these days is getting more expensive, but its the volume that helps - pretty good money in that.

Now, digger hire is the game to be in. Ok the equipment can cost a fair packet, but a bit of astute buying should see a couple of cheap ones. The rest is pure profit. Its something that more and more people are doing for themselves - garden re-landscaping etc.

The whole DIY thing is huge and still growing. Service this and its a money spinner - its hard, dont get me wrong, but better than working for a living I am sure...!

Cheers for that.

My brain can never get away from buying/develooping property when it comes to doing something with cash so when I was quizzed I didn't come up with much.

Actually all I was thinking was "£50k eh, would do the job for a deposit on a lhd Murci".

If I had £50k lying around I'd stick it in a scaffolding company.

Start up shouldn't be too much, most jobs get turned around quite quickly and there's the benefit of compound interest on your operating capitol from monthly valuations.

Plus the bu66ers charge a fortune to modify existing erections (don't even think about it Vixpy! )

Buy a small, failing, company at net asset value. Improve the company, make it profitable, hold onto the shares for more than two years. Following which you could sell the company for much more than you paid for it and get 75% tax relief on CGT and thereby only pay 10% tax. This is what I do!
