I have an Audi Q2 hire car and noticed this weird insert and electrical connector in the spare wheel well. Any ideas what it is?

It ensures that the spare wheel has all the latest firmware updates. You wouldn't want to have to use it only to discover that your running sparewheel_1.3.2 when the car had already been updated and only accepts sparewheel_1.4.0 and above.

Is it something to do with the collapsible spare wheel that some Audis have? Inflater perhaps?

Golf and facelift Scirocco has similar if you spec the Dynaudio option.

As do the Leons with the 'SEAT sound' option
