Just an observation, or the musings of a madman on Friday afternoon but the F1 paddock is a small place with a limited number of contacts and even fewer at the very top level.

Fernando Alonso, no doubt supremely talented, but in his time in F1 has developed a reputation for being difficult to work with. He doesn't deal well with competitive team-mates and has been known to annoy a team boss or two putting it mildly and I doubt Honda would want him in one of their cars again any time soon.

Red Bull behave in a similar way, ousting Kvyat to bring in Verstappen may have worked out well but it wouldn't inspire great confidence in anyone in the junior program. Given the fact that Renault powered them to 4 championships, the deterioration in their relationship has been marked and I personally believe they chose Honda because they simply couldn't work with Renault any more. Its also obvious that both Ferrari and Mercedes would resist any supply deal to a team that could potentially beat them at their own game.

I suppose my point is this, why in a sport with a finite number of variables, which you need to combine the best of to compete at the front, would you let something like relationships get in the way. I know everyone is pushing and I know its tough at the top, but surely maintaining good working relationships is critical to success because you never know who will be on top tomorrow and you might need that engine, or that driver, or even access to talk to someone but because you chose to burn a bridge, its not an option anymore.

I guess in an ideal world you do what Ferrari, Mercedes and now Renault have done and have your own team, thereby removing the risky Team/Engine supplier approach.

There’s already numerous threads on Alonso including the Goodbye one above, is another one really necessary?

Mercedes make cars, Ferrari make cars - Red Bull make fizzy drinks!

Benetton made jumpers sometimes - maybe focussing on your core strategy would be a plan?
