Sailing Weather Apps.

Just wondering what people are using these days to get detailed weather updates when sailing, what apps people find the best for European and Global coverage?

I use www.metcheck.com for aviation. Seems pretty accurate and they use U.K./North Europe models for forecasting.

I use igrib for winds, otherwise it’s synoptic charts and meteoearth.

In the Solent SolentMet is good which takes feeds from bramblemet and so on.

another vote for solentmet and also windguru + windy.com - if you are sailing in solent - new holmewood hotel web cam provides a good insight into sea state.

Power rather than sail here but I find windfinder good for my local area wind, tide and sea state forecasts.

Focus for me is on wave height and frequency as I have a planing hull craft and the dentist is expensive

I use PredictWind for racing although a subscription to the 1km resolution version is not cheap.

Yeah - i more or less have a laptop running with it all the time whilst stuck at work - especially when regattas are on!

This looks interesting - do you know if the $29 basic option is enough - which says 1km predictwind included? or are you saying you need $250 version - which would make me think twice? thanks in advance - Ross

The pricing is a little confusing if you are in the UK. I have the mid level one because I want the routing capability. I thought the cheap one didn’t include 1km maps but I may be wrong. The best thing about PW is the fact that you can compare several models to get more understanding of what the weather system is doing.

I do too. Seems consistently reliable for the Thames estuary over the few years I've been using it.

ok thanks - i will try cheap one which claims 1km maps and see how it works - yes the 2 models thing appealed for clearer understanding
