Relative Newbie - Door Locking! - Help Appreciated

Hi all,

Ive searched through the archives but cant find the same problem as mine.

Ive recently (few weeks ago!) purchased a '98 Chimaera and have been driving her regularly..

Locked her in Garage, left her 1 day and now when i press the alarm button she wont let me in..
There is no sound from the door locks so they are not attempting to open.

I looked at the immobiliser light near the ignition key and when i press the alarm button it goes out and when i press it again it starts flashing again so it seems the fob is working ok..

Im sure its a Meta system (late chimaera with single button)

Can anyone please shed some light on the subject?

Have you tried the spare keyfob just in case..? I have to say, it sounds like a dying battery to me..

Hi Matt,

The spare has been more than a little tempremental anyway and was due a new fob battery..

I take it you mean the main car battery?

Its always started with no problems, starter always spins quickly etc even when left for a few days so i would be surprised it would suddenly die after 1 day.

I hear what you are saying, but when they go, they can just die I'm afraid. There are other options such as fuses atc, but IMO my money is still on the main battery... only one way to find out.

I'll have to take a little peek at the battery..

Now the great mystical question.. Can you (or anybody) tell me via a smoke signal or carrier pigeon how to get into the car without using the Alarm fob?

Or if you cant, who i need to ask...?

Ive lear'nt if both fobs don't work against the front windscreen,just over the steering wheel your fecked and it will be the battery.
Whats the big secret about getting in, I always use a stanley knife on the soft top to get in..

hmm.. indicators do point towards the battery.

Just amazed that the battery could be fine and then suddenly go dead in 1 day. Never had that before in previous cars..

Well i was going to use an electric can opener on the bonnet and come in via the back of the dash!

I have with just one of my previous ones.. 1993 4.0 Chimaera

Well comparing TVR's with 'normal' cars is never a good idea i guess on any level!

Once you've removed the bolts that hold the battery in place, you could always climb in through these bolt holes if you're skinny enough

You only use that method to get to a washer pipe that has fallen off!

Yeah thats my third method of entry,after attacking the rear wing with a hole saw to gain acsess to the door soleniod's.

So have many others had sudden battery failures?

A battery should'nt just die like that,check that you did'nt leave the stereo on,sounds odd to me.
Get the battery checked

I've had a battery die on me....Parked a car up came back 1 hour later...nothing ? Had to get a friend to pick me up a new battery, had the old one tested and it had shorted out internally

If the battery is ok, and you can see the immobiliser light (by the ignition) going out and coming back on again when you use the alarm fob, any other possibilities for the phenomenon of:

Doors dont unlock and indicators dont flash.

As mentioned earlier.. you'd need to check your fuses. Have you got "the bible" ?

Yeah i have the trusty TVR bible..

Since it was 6.30am this morning when i found this phenomenon i thought best have some good suggestions ready for when i get home later..

I'll check the trusty fuses too..

I dont suppose there is a wiring diagram floating around for how the Meta alarm is connected?
