Hi - I’m considering buying a Focus with 1.5 diesel ecoboost engine. Is this a well regarded unit - any gotchas or considerations?

I can't offer much in the way of personal experience, but Ford refers to its petrol engines as 'Ecoboost' and its diesel engines as 'Econetic'. Both are available as a 1.5-litre.

I don't mean to be pedantic, just trying to save confusion!

The Mrs has a 1.5 diesel Fiesta and it's pretty decent. It does only have 75hp but you'd never notice at lower speeds, it accelerates quite briskly, even at low revs and doesn't suffer from turbo lag like the older 1.6 diesels.

It's only when you reach higher speeds, of around 80mph, that you notice that it is only has a 75hp engine.

Fuel economy is decent and she averages 66mpg without even trying.

No idea on reliability, as she's only had it for 6 months but the reason she bought it was because she loved her older 1.6 tdci so much and it never gave her any problems in 7 years and 87,0000 miles.

ETA: Sorry I see now that you're on about the Focus and not the Fiesta.

MIL just bought a Focus with the 1.5 diesel and while test driving them, I was very impressed. As with the Fiesta, it doesn't seem to suffer from turbo lag at low revs like older diesels do. I guess it might be the same engine, just with a different ECU and upgraded parts to cope with the power increase. That's only a guess though.
