Hi,

I bought an mx5 cover from amazon for a not insignificant amount as I won’t be using my car for a little while.
The description is as follows;

100% WaterProof & Breathable Fabric
Excellent All Round Protection - Protects from Weather, Dust, Dirt, Bird Droppings, Tree Sap, Wind, Rain, Snow, Ice, Sun, UV Rays
Double Stitched Seams & Elasticated Hem - Includes Storage Bag
Features Ring Eyelets For Securing To Car
Includes XtremeAuto Sticker

After 2 months the cover has disintergrated and started to rip. There are 3 rips as shown. I have contacted the seller stating not fit for purpose and requesting a refund but have no reply.

Can this be taken further maybe with amazon? Do you think a refund should be expected after 2 months?

all on amazon website.

'Your Legal Warranty
If a product you’ve purchased on Amazon Marketplace turns out to be faulty after delivery or not as advertised (i.e., non-conformant), the Seller has to give you a free of charge (including return costs) repair, replacement or refund for a “reasonable time” following the sale. That time will vary depending on the product and its value. However, if you make such a claim more than 6 months from delivery, you may need to prove that the fault existed at the time of delivery of the product and wasn’t caused by, for example, an accident, misuse, liquid damage, etc.

In addition, many Marketplace Sellers or manufacturers of the products sold offer their own commercial warranty that may also promise to repair the product purchased for a period of time. These may be free or for optional purchase.

Note: The commercial guarantee may never replace the legal warranty described above, which you always have from the Seller.

Managing your return requests
To manage your return requests visit the Returns Support Centre and click the Manage returns button. From here, you can:'

I'd simply return it to Amazon as faulty / not fit for purpose. They will refund you.

^ Yep, shouldn't be any trouble getting a refund from Amazon.

Thanks for the quick replies, I don’t have access to the cover after today so hopefully this can be dealt with through photos and amazon.

Amazon help chat, explain it to them.

They will say ship it back to us at our own expense/we will collect, we will refund you immediately & If you kick up a fuss they will offer you £5 or 30 extra days to your prime. Bet it takes under a few mins.

Amazon are as dirty as they come with tax avoidance, supplier/workers under the thumb screws & playing the corporation game..... But boy do they know customer service.

I’ll get on chat help tonight. Thanks.

I’m away for a bit so car is parked at my parents covered up. They’re already a bit pissed about taking up the drive so don’t want to ask them to have to post the cover too!

Edit - insurance already know.

Slightly off topic. I had a 2013 MX5 Venture edition, the one in dark blue with the tan fabric roof. I bought a car cover for it, and had been using it for a few weeks over the winter. Came home one day to find the top layer ripped to shreds. I checked my CCTV and found that a group of seagulls had taken a dislike to it and attacked!

More seriously, I noticed that using a car cover had actually damaged the roof. There were two distinct 'wear' marks on the leading edge of each back corner of the roof, above the rear window. I put this down to the cover moving slightly in the wind and rubbing against the corners. Because the roof was tan rather than black, it was really obvious and you could see a distinct black scuff where the tan stitching was starting to wear. I wouldn't bother with a car cover again.

Amazon have refunded less than 24 hours after the email to them. Quite impressed, no questions asked.

This was mine after 3 months, Europarts didn't even want it back once they had seen the photos

Have ended up buying the halfords one and I am very impressed with the thickness plus vent holes and clips for underneath the car/

Mmm that’s most likely a Carpoint cover - what’s happened is that the factory forgot to spray that batch of covers with UV protectant.. oops! If you use them indoors they are fine but obviously no good in the summer we had!

They got drunk because you parked your car on their drive? Weird.
