Hoping someone with more experience with these cars can advise me on this. Looking at buying a focus st-2, never owned one before.

The owner is looking for £4000 for it and said he'll stage 1 remap it for that price.

Timing belt/pump done 10k ago, it's on 78k miles NOT 70k like in the ad.

Here is a link to it:

Reason I want to ask is I don't know a whole lot about these cars and from looking at other similar ones, the prices seem to vary wildly. I've seen stage 2 ones with the supporting mods for less, but maybe the car is a wreck, I don't know.

Cheers

Have you seen a receipt for the timing belt? If not assume it hasn't been done if you're buying it for 4k then I'd say that's a good deal.

Belt is fine on mileage, but not on age IIRC - definitely 125k, but I think it is 10 years, so I'd want to see evidence as well.
However, rather than a remap, I'd be looking at getting the oil diaphragm sorted first. I think mine went at that sort of mileage maybe a bit later & when it happens, you haven't got long before it can do a fair amount of damage. I nearly left it too long and while it did do another 100k+, it was never quite the same. Used nil oil between services before, but it did afterwards and lost just a touch of pig-iron engined invincibility.

They are pretty tough things if you're sensible, but if you get too excitable on the upgrade front, maybe not so.

The previous owners would put me off, the current owner is the 8th, you would be the ninth....

That is nigh on 1 a year
