Only slightly motoring related but...

My GF has a job which means shes walking home at 21:00 at night. On 2 occasions now cars with blokes in keep pulling up and shouting "stuff" at her. Last night she dived into a chip shop and the bloke pulls up and keeps having a go. It's not just on their way past either, they'll turn around and follow her, keep going past etc

Obviously shes a bit upset about it. Now i'd walk her home but I live 50 miles away.

I want her to report it to the police and call them right away if it happens again. But she clames they wont be interested...

Any bib care to tell me how this would be handled if she go's to the cop shop and tells them she keeps getting hastle...

Edit: (oh and is pepper spray legal in the UK?)

Is it the same people every time?

Sounds worrying, whatever. I'd hate that to happen to the Dragon, bless her.

I guess these are some obvious questions ...

how old is she
how attractive is she
how does she dress
does the area she walks through have a reputation

I'm not saying that she's "asking for it" - I just wondered whether the people in cars are getting over excited and picking on her because she somehow stands out from the crowd?

The "stuff" they say - presumably of a sexual nature and not just general abuse?

Why is it poeple can't just mind their own goddam business and leave other people and other peoples' things alone

She says it's not the same car. But there was more than one person in the car 1st time....

Shes 20
Well shes stunning obviously! (ummm....fair to middleing...)
She never dresses "gagging for it". Although it's hard to hide her assets....
The area is scumville. Or High Wycombe as it's known. Being a student it's not a ritch area either.

She could get a taxi but that would take 1/2 what she earns...

Makes me too....

Notebook, pen, digital camera, '999' on cell-phone speed-dial.

Ask a (male, trustworthy) friend to walk some distance behind and note inappropriate behaviour by others, take photographs, etc.

Make official complaint to police with evidence. Note each occasion a report is made in case the "15:5" scenario rears its head (but remember that under the 'counting rules' the police might count N reports as a single report for statistical purposes).

Try 'dressing down' to see if it still happens - useful to refute the "asking-for-it" assumption.

Change route.
