Lease term longer than warranty query

I’m looking at leasing a new family wagon to replace the 335D touring and have seen an OK deal on a new Discovery, but it’s a 49 month term, so what happens with regards to repairs/maintenance once the 3 year factory warranty expires? Do I have to either pay to extend the warranty or risk a big bill if something major goes pop in the final year (quite possibly on a Disco!)?

I know that a 3 year lease probably makes more sense, but on certain cars I am looking at (D5 and XC90) the 4 year terms seem slightly better value.

Ive always wondered this, but I think i remember someone posting on here once they had a BMW on lease and something went wrong out of warranty. They reckon they told the company who financed the lease deal it was their problem to sort out as legally they owned the car. I think the outcome was that between BMW and the finance company the problem was sorted with no charge to the leaser.

Im sure someone will be along with a totally different experience.

I don’t think I’d want the potential hassle, particularly with a LR product. Stick to 2/3 years. Depending on your mileage, you could get into additional maintenance costs over 4 years (disks, pads, tyres, fluid changes etc) so doubt there would be much difference in the TCO in reality.

Unless you are paying extra for it, service and maintenance (including breakdowns) are down to you.

It's an interesting question, I had always assumed it would be down to the person leasing the car, but on the other hand you are literally just renting the car and if you were renting a TV (does anyone still do that these days?!) you wouldn't expect them to go "nah, out of warranty" after a year.

TBH I would ask the question and get the lease company to confirm in writing.
