Steering wheel spacer for tall drivers
Discussion
I'm a relatively new Cayman owner, and fairly tall (just under 6'4", 35" inside leg) so the usual knee to steering wheel interference was still a fresh enough irritation to make me do something about it.
A 330 or even 300 wheel would have been the best solution, but the lack of airbag probably would have violated my warranty, so...
Giacomo has been advertising his spacers on a lot of forums, I think including this one, so I ignored the fairly high price and gave one of these a go:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-997-987-991-981...
Arrived in a couple of days, and very easy to install - comes with extenders for your wheel control wiring, not that I need them with my wheel, the airbag wires are very long so don't need to worry about those. It took me only 20 minutes actual work not including waiting 20 minutes after disconnecting the battery and two trips to B&Q to get the correct Torx bit (55) and an adapter for my ratchet.
The end result is that I'm now much happier with the position of the wheel. I even put it back in about 1-1.5cm, and still have plenty of room for my hand on the wheel as it goes past my knee. The negative is that the stalks are now a stretch, though still reachable. For me, instead of a 5cm spacer, I think a 3cm spacer would have been ideal, but I understand that making this in variable thicknesses (or even with a front, a back, and removeable spacers in the middle) would be very much more difficult, and therefore much more expensive.
Anyway, just to recommend this if your knee is getting in the way of your hand on the wheel and you could do with the space.
