Cayman S in almost-R spec
Discussion
I picked up my current 987.2 Cayman S a month or so ago, I was v impressed by the spec and condition and having now attended a few Porsche Club GB meets and meets at Beaulieu, i haven't seen any others in my spec. It has the aero kit and carbon buckets, as well as a whole row of buttons under the AC controls, leather etc etc..
This got me thinking, why would the original owner spec a Cayman S to almost Cayman R spec, why not just go for an R? With all the factory extras, I doubt money was too much of a driving factor?
Any ideas?

PASM? Does your car have it?
If so maybe the specifying owner wanted PASM... the R doesn’t have PASM.
It does indeed, I have heard the R's aren't great on UK roads. If so maybe the specifying owner wanted PASM... the R doesn’t have PASM.
The interesting thing is that it doesn't have what I would call 'comfort' options: Cruise Control, TPMS, parking sensors, dimming mirrors and auto wipers, leading me to think it was speced to be track focused rather than a daily driver.
It's a great car, puts a smile on my face every time I jump in. I'll post some photos tonight.

You raise a good point! However it was delivered in Apr 2011 so the Cayman R was around!
who was the first owner? Could have been spec by dealer and sitting in showroom for few months ie built in late 2010, this was quiet common for cars around that time as sales were slow and deals to be had. Tell tale sign would be the chassis number.
Cayman R was not well received back then and I am sure deliveries to UK started April/May2011.
Whatever it sounds like you have got yourself a nice caymanS almost CR spec.without the CR premium! And if it has passive suspension, manual and 18" wheels even better!

I'm afraid it's got PASM, PDK and 19's, all of which I wanted. But I do have some 18's in the garage waiting to be fitted with winter tyres! Will be interesting to see how the ride changes with those on.

100%, its spooky how compliant and capable the R is on undulating UK roads. Especially considering how low it is and with limited suspension travel.
Agree far better than any 996 or 997 GT3 for a start. and better than car 987 with PASM on.The sus and steering makes the R imo.

Here are some phots :-) (the last one insists on remaining upside down - but I'm sure you get the idea):

My Boxster S is just out of shot in this picture. Mine is similar, in that it was specced by Porsche and pretty much has GTS spec without the alcantara and sport design bits and paid about £20,000 less. Pretty happy with it, and if I keep it long term I might add the sport design bumper as I think it looks much nicer.I've got a similar 987.2 Cayman S. 2010 manual, carbon buckets, PCCB, design sport wheel, Sport Chrono, Xenons, not much else (not PASM). Coincidentally mine also came from Porsche Bristol late last year, but had been kept by its last owner for a good few years. Mine has a reg a couple of letters away from a similar specced car I have seen in Evo magazine, so suspect it may well have been a press car?
