What used car would you buy for under £6000?

Currently looking at the Hyundai i30 (2012 onwards), the Kia Cee'd (2012 onwards), the Vauxhall Astra (2009 onwards) or the Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo. Only really need it to fit myself and my girlfriend and to handle half an hour to and from work each day on mostly dual carriageways plus day trips out on the weekends. We've both been hit by a ton of trouble with our current cars (2007 Renault Clio Dynamique mk III for me and 2007 R56 mini cooper for her) and given that we are trying to buy a house sometime in the near future are mostly worried about reliability. Ideally 2011 or newer and less than 75,000 miles but feel free to convince me otherwise. Any recommendations?

I have a 30,000 mile 2008 C5 2.0 Diesel for sale that has been absolutely rock solid, tons of space and air suspension for the speed humps!!

Toyota Aygo or the Pug/Citroen equivalent. Cheap to buy, fix, run and a maximum of £20 a year tax. Buying a house is stressful enough, slice out all the expenses in . your life for a bit, make it so and then buy something bigger when you're doing the IKEA run

Not a good choice for 2 hour commute especially on DC or motorways.
My vote is Petrol Jap estate circa 2002-2010, low miles.

Ford Focus 1.6 petrol, no doubt you'll get a mk3 for 6k. A diesel can make sense if you make sure you clear the DPF out.

Another vote for the Mazda 3.

Drives like a Focus, better build quality, better reliability. Lots of standard kit.

Look for a low mileage petrol. Plenty about. 2.0 is a better drive but rare.

Depending on how many miles you do a year then the Kia Cee'd in either fuel type will be a good fit & you'll maybe have a years worth of Manufacturer's Warranty left that you should be able to extend be able to extend for added peace of mind.
