Mot expired and car has one broken wheel stud. Garage told me provided I make an appointment I can drive it to them even with the broken stud with no problems from police.

This sounded dodgy to me. Am I right in thinking its not allowed to drive a car to mot station in this condition even if you are driving to an mot appointment, is there a penalty for this?

Driving to a MOT is NOT an excuse to drive with an unsafe vehicle. You could end up with a fine/points or worse case going to court. In fact worst case would be killing someone.

If its unsafe, you need to get it put on a trailer (not using a tow rope) to get it repaired and then get its MOT done.

Oh look, the "wheelnut wonder" is back!

You ask the question, but seriously, do you not know the answer?

Out of the 99 threads on broken wheel studs ,have you ever said what this car is ?

just out of interest and general nosiness.

In the real world though, I can't see there's a huge amount of risk in driving a car at slow speeds a mile or so to a garage provided the other nuts are done up tight (though not overtight). Is it "unroadworthy" to have a missing wheel nut? Or is it more vague, such as "wheels must be securely fixed to car"...

Can you not but a new nut on eBay? Or get a mobile mechanic to drill out and rethread a crossed stud?

To summarise, legally you can drive a car without an MOT to a booked appointment at an MOT station, but you cannotndrive an unroadworthy car on the road. What do you constitute as unroadworthy? A car missing 1 stud on 1 wheel?

"Wheelnut wonder" hehe

Re the bit in bold - probably not the best idea given your supposed history with the Police and a broken car on the M25 laugh
