... due to hyperinflation.

Here's a good primer on how Venezuela has arrived at this point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL8d91vdR9g

Is socialism to blame for what's happened in Venezuela or is it more complicated? poor leadership? too much nationalization?

Bear in mind this used to be one of the richest countries in Latin America.

Appears to be mutually exclusive to the human condition.

Happens whenever any government spends far more than it receives in revenues and prints money to make up the difference. There is only so long that can last.

My huge problem with all the socialists I've ever met is that they simply think the Government has a bottomless pool of money to give to the poor (and feckless!). This is simply not the case and if the Govt taxes wealthy people ever more, then they either stop earning and creating wealth or begin evading paying their taxes.

There was a survey very recently which asked Labour supporters "Would you support higher taxes for wealthy even if the policy brought in less tax revenue overall?". The majority, something like 60-80%, said yes. FFS socialists are simply envious of those that work harder, are more intelligent and yes some that are lucky.

Labour = politics of envy and it ain't nice.

But real communism has, in every kibbutz in Israel. Seems to actually work quite well.

I must admit that I don't know much about this. However, I have 2 things to mention...

1 Communism is more likely to work the smaller the community is. "best for all of us" really works in small teams. In a small environment, a negative action by 1 is then self policed by the many. As soon as the actions of 1 are not noticeable, you will inevitably see selfish people chating the system. IMO this is one of the contributors to communism and corruption having significant correlation.

In 2010, there were 270 kibbutzim in Israel. Their factories and farms account for 9% of Israel's industrial output, worth US$8 billion, and 40% of its agricultural output, worth over $1.7 billion.[4] Some kibbutzim had also developed substantial high-tech and military industries. For example, in 2010, Kibbutz Sasa, containing some 200 members, generated $850 million in annual revenue from its military-plastics industry.[5]
Just like Chavez and his oil, it's easy for any entity to be successful with strong income. Rich people are happy. They are generous. If the snip from Wiki is right (not saying it is, it's wiki)... This is an arms operation that presumably brings the income that allows this socialist utopia to go on. Humans are interesting because we have complex social systems - but when it properly hits the fan, we're all animals, and it's "me and my family first". Venesuela was perfect when they were all comfortable - riots and violence when they weren't. Honestly, what do you expect in that kibbutz hen the arms money goes? All equally starving, or the stronger / more powerful taking what they need?
