Well on my way home after a long time trouble free I have gained a clutch problem
Since buying the car its been a little stiff and was due in for gear oil change very soon as the gear changes were a little stiff to at times

Today on way home I changed gear into 4th and the clutch went light but when releasing pedal it comes up halfway then almost stops then creeps out the rest of the way very slowly and the clutch starts to bite just enough to get home and keep going
If i try to accelerate a little hard it slips but just got me home without slipping

I am thinking slave cylinder or master cylinder is faulty and not returning properly ??

Anyone else had anything similar
Thanks

Sounds like it could be the clutch assist spring - if it is, it's not an expensive fix.

Sounds exactly what happened on my Red Boxster S ... and that needed a replacement clutch and flywheel!

It's almost like it stops at a certain place then the clutch releases itself very slowly and starts to bite then doesn't fully connect with the pressure plate as it will still slip

How similar was yours to this and did your pedal go very light as well ??
Not to keen on doing a new clutch already

I had the same issue in my 996 with my pedal only returning to the halfway up position, with me knocking the pedal back up to the top with my foot each time! Turned out to be the slave cylinder, it was leaking - replaced in about an hour by the mechanic, all fine for a year now.

Mine was fairly similar...pedal returning half way and moving back slowly. But after a few weeks of that, the pedal started sticking down and not returning, and the gear change was quite heavy. Hope yours is something less serious/expensive!

Could be any of the reasons already mentioned but I would guess that the release bearing has worn through the diaphragm fingers of the cover and has either rocked over or gone through (giving the dragging/slipping).

Transmission oil won't be causing the stickiness in shifting - it just doesn't generally (Has the car got a short shift fitted). Likely the clutch has been going for a while and you have been driving round it.

Assister spring makes the pedal feel dead at the top of the travel - it can sometimes impair the release of the clutch if the spring binds up in the tube but generally 'pops' when it fails alerting you to something amiss
