2003 long wheelbase shogun 3.2D, starts and revs, no drive (is an auto). I know it could be ridiculously expensive and time consuming to sort, but it's cheap, and I'd love to hear from anyone about their mate having the same and it being a 50p switch, not a 2K "should have chucked it" job. It's £900 btw, and a shocking Mot history,

May 2017:

Reason(s) for failure
Nearside Rear Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Rear Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Front Lower Suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)
Parking brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.C.1b)

Advisory notice item(s)
Nearside Front slight leak from n/s/f shock absorber
slightly wet round power steering pipes
under body has some rust
major engine oil leak
Rear trialling arms have some play

Aug 2017, redone, not so much as an advisory...

Which does mean it's due a test, and can't be driven to a station to even get a list of what's likely to be needed.

Should I leave bad enough alone?

Cmon ph, give me hope!

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. They are hardy vehicles but with a (most likely) shagged gearbox and mot history suggesting neglect I'd look at others.
They rust quite badly too, sounds like it's started already.

Must be some other crusty jeeps/trucks that are running and driving for a grand.

Well, that appears to have gone the way I was expecting!
