As per my earlier thread I've bought a 4K TV. This TV also comes with a tuner that will stream some 4K content from the likes of Amazon and the BBC.

I've been scratching my head around the receivers I have at my disposal namely the Yamaha RXV673 I was planning to use and a spare Yamaha RXV581.

They both support "4K pass through" which seems to be a bit of red herring.

What apparently I need is "4K Ultra HD video pass-through with support for the HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 connection and copy protection standards." according to this piece;

https://hdguru.com/yamaha-rolls-out-hdmi-2-0hdcp-2...

So sounds like the 581 is the one to use if I want to stream the 4K content from my TV through the receiver.

Am I correct?

Your amp doesn't need 4K at all, if the only 4K video source you have is the TV.

The TV will only accept video from the amp, it will not pass video to it. The only output from TV to amp will be audio via ARC if you're using that.

You'll only need 4K pass through on your amp if you have a 4K source other than the TV like 4K Blueray, Sky Q etc.which is connected through the amp to the TV. (The passthrough)

That being said I've found that a new 4K upscaling amp, did a better job at upscaling an SD or HD signal before passing it to my TV than the TV did. It made lipsync delays which differed between sources, easier to sort out, so in the long run I'd say it probably is new amp time.

The Yamaha 581 is an excellent amp as is that range. I have the 781 myself.

Thanks. Longer term I'd like get one of the RXA range.

My third amp is one of the older Aventages (1067?).
Whatever tbe model number its equivalent to todays RXA 3067.

It sounds amazing but is of course is behind on some of the more recent formats.
