Good Morning

I am new to the forum and was hoping I could get some advic.

We are considering buying a BMW e39 520i M Tourer petrol 2002 model but the owner has told us it has a slight water leak from the water pump and he has to top it up every two weeks

Is this a big expensive job to fix.

It's a Beautifull car and always we'll maintained but just a bit worried about the water leak
Thanks

Relatively easy job - and from memory the pump isn't too expensive - the worst bit is getting the fan and shroud off, but better to do it sooner rather than later! And with most things E39 and cooling related, best to at least do the thermostat whilst you are in there.

Assuming it really is coming from the water pump (as opposed to, for example, the head gasket) it should be pretty simple. It's driven by the auxiliary drive belt so you might as well get that and its tensioner done at the same time.

Well maintained but "just needs" a water pump (or something more serious) would be enough to put me off.

With thermostat, gaskets and all the other bits it cost me around £700 at my indy - although the pump was £444+ vat for my E39 M5...
