= one person goes free.

So London underground now let you swipe through the barriers with just your regular Debit or Credit card. You then swipe the same card at the end of your journey and are only charged for the route you take...It's supposed to be cheaper, but it actually isn't (a travel card is cheaper by £1)...UNLESS that is you happen to be travelling with someone whom you have a joint bank account with, and a debit card from same said account. In this case, TfL only charge you once even though two of you used your own cards to go through the barrier.

So yeah - I guess the system sees the cards with the same bank account number and thinks you've been dumb and haven't swiped properly the first time, so it ignores the first attempt or something.

Me and the Mrs have been up to London three times this summer from Amersham and only been charged once.

But don't tell TfL!

I cam't see anywhere in the current fare table where a daily or weekly travelcard is ever cheaper than the equivalent daily/weekly PAYG cap, so not sure which prices you're comparing here?

I thought the rates were the same. That way they don't have to issue Oyster cards anymore, your contactless card does the same thing.

You sure what you are saying is right? I assume that both your cards have different card numbers, and therefore would be felt with separately.

The TFL website agrees "If you have a joint account, you can both use your contactless payment cards to travel; you can travel at the same time and each card will be charged separately."

No, actually joint accounts have the same card number, only difference on visa/mastercard is the 3 digit code on the rear is different.

Our Barclays cards have different numbers. Visa debit.

Also not sure what prices OP is comparing. Fairly sure contactless never more expensive (it caps at same level after all, with additional benefit of your unspent cash not sitting with TfL).

Exactly the same here and agree about the pricing.
