My daughter has just moved into a newly built house.
On the other side of the road is an active cctv camera that is linked back to a monitoring station somewhere. It is constantly in use as you can see it moving.
This camera can 'see' straight into my daughters bedroom and also see into ( should the operator desitre ) several of the other newly built properties including back gardens, bathrooms, bedrooms etc.
Surely this now becomes an invasion of privicy issue? Correct me if I am wrong.

I used to be in charge of the CCTV in Brighton and we had a policy whereby anyone who was concerned could view the 'tapes' of any specific period should they so wish.
We also had 'lay visitors' who could visit the CCTV room at any time and view any tape.
My understanding is that the above is correct.

If it's a local council they should have privacy zones set up.
This is what I was going to say - but no harm in checking with the council.Basically, the SW of the CCTV allows areas of the view to be blacked out - even basic home CCTV has this feature, well ours certainly does and have blacked out a couple of zones that encroach onto my neighbours.

Submit a subject access request to view the footage and ask for a privacy zone to be setup if it hasnt already.
On a similar note i did a domestic cctv job in glasgow on a nice huge detached house, and the property owner said his neighbour was a bit of a t
t so I carefully set up privacy zones.
The next day the neighbour was round saying those cameras were pointed right through his windows (were they fk, nowhere near it but every tt that has watched csi is a camera expert) so he invited him in for a viewing.
Apparently when he saw his whole property was a black square ( the other neighbouring properties i only blacked out the windows and doors) and was told it needed an engineer visit to remove the privacy mask he looked deflated and said what if I get broken into, your cameras wont help me?
Some people need tied up and beaten for their pin and safe combination while their house gets ransacked tbh it would be a valuable learning experience for them.
The neighbour ended up buying netgear arlo cams and diy fitted them into unsuitable locations. On a house on a street of £700k houses. Oh and a yale alarm.
