General Election, no hope for the young...
Discussion
I have just been talking to various twenty somethings (god I feel old) and they have all either voted Lib Dem or Labour, this distresses me tbh. One young man even said his reason was that the Tories would chuck out all immigrants! I pointed out that what the Tories actually meant was they would have tighter control etc...!
I dispair, they basically had no idea why they had voted the way they did, they knew nothing about the facts, when I mentioned things like; stealth taxes, budget deficits etc there was just a blank look on their faces, they basically have no idea why they have voted this way, should people who are so uninformed vote at all?
I have no problem with people voting how they want but if they have no idea or reason why they have done this I do get exasperated!

what really winds me up, is when you talk to people and they are voting for Labour because 'the come from a working class background'
spot on, this one guy I am thinking of voted Labour for 2 reasons one he is black and thinks Tories are racist and upper class toffs and two he sees himself as an immigrant because he is black (he was born and grew up here but will not see Britain as his home)...

...unlike most of the current cabinet.
I am a twenty something and frankly it's stereotyping the issue to think that it's just my demographic that's ignorant. There are huge swathes of the public from every possible section of society that either aren't able to grasp the implications of the policies involved, or just don't care which shower of bastards gets the keys tomorrow morning.
So please don't blame the young when you wake up to Tony again.

fair comments but one has to generlise somewhere, it is not who they vote for that is winding me up, it is their (and yes you are right it is not just the young) total lack of knowledge that gets to me
Just to even things up, I'm a 20 something who voted Tory and I was talking to one of the girls in the office who was voting for Tony because "you can trust him" and "the taxes are worth paying for better public services" Having swallowed the soundbites it was obvious that there was no underlying knowledge of the issues, so in conclusion, all 40 somethings are to blame

Sorry - I think you misundertood me...
I wasnt saying this was mainly the young (infact, the middle-aged and retired are probably the worst offenders - voted Labour since Kinnock) or infact, just Labour voters..
It was me basically ranting because half the people I speak to, seem to be voting purely on a 'class' basis..
The Dragon and I still have no idea who to vote for today. Can't find any issue that's significant enough for us with which to separate Labour from the Tories. One thing's for certain: I'd rather lick my own bottom than vote LibDem.
(I'm 32 and my opinion of the Tories is still tainted by the Thatcher years of boom/bust. Living in the south east of England and self-employed with a largeish mortgage, the last thing we want is financial instability. Labour (plus the Bank of England) have been very good at stabilising things.)

There is no hope for this country as long as politicians tickle the minds of idiots with idealistic nonsense. See mostly Liberal but most certainly Labour.
It makes me spit, I would rather have the hillbillies from Ginsters in charge
I absolutely hate this textbook driven shit which we are forced to experiment with, can we have a proper pilot at the controls and not a bloody new AGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People seem to fall into one of two camps.
Those who though Thatcher was good and those that thought Thatcher was bad.
If youre the former you're a tory vote and the latter probably labour, maybe lib dem.
Seems strange they both campaigning if it comes down to this...
What an impact that great woman had on politics eh?

The Labour party would like to take your lovely Corvette and put it in a crusher. Then they would like to break your legs for having the audacity to own such a vehicle in the first place and probably fine and imprison you as well.
The Conservatives would like to reduce your fuel tax to zero and give you your own personal 5 mile stretch of motorway with no speed limits so that you can max your car out on a regular basis.
Thats a bit of a precis of the two parties transport policies.
I'm sure you will now be able to make the correct decision.
BTW. You're dead right about the lib dems.
