Commercial Jet2 flight today. The climb and turbulence took way longer than usual with alot of turbulence throughout the flight.

The descent into Manchester before we hit the run way was dramatic, alot of up/down and looking out of the window it was evident that the approach speed was alarmingly over what it usually is. Net result bounced from one wheel to the other and almost ended up sideways before correcting.

New pilot not using autopilot or an issue? Maybe a 6yr old passenger was allowed a go on the descent?

It was the polar opposite of on the way out.

Never experienced anything like it. No side winds at Manchester

What exactly do you expect the pilot to do about the air moving around?

It was windy today, thats all..... blame the weather forecaster, not the pilot!

Little old lady to pilot, on leaving: 'Excuse me, did we land or were we shot down?'

It wasn't windy though. There was no sheer wind or cross wind eitherside

I should have paid more attention - here's what I saw (the Hull Daily Mail link says Turkey, and I assumed there was only one "event" this week):

Can't say I've ever flown with Jet2, but multiple emergencies at Manchester plus Jess Glynn on an infinite loop makes Ryanair sound appealing.

Jet 2's website says it landed at 2:04pm which is 14 minutes after the above weather report was issued.

ETA:

Jet 2's arrival time may be on stand as FlightAware thinks it 'landed' at 1:49pm which is pretty much the time that the weather report above was issued.

Wind is gusting between 8 and 19 mph at 70 degrees from the runway direction (around 230) with between 12 and 25% of the sky containing Cumulonimbus clouds:

I think that combination would create the conditions you described.

FFS, that’s nearly as bad as the report in the Daily fail, maximum speed landing, or perhaps landing at the correct speed for no flaps, but that wouldn’t make a good headline, retards. The aircraft wouldn’t land at the maximum speed, about 490 knots, more like 200 with no flaps, albeit a bit brown trouser, it’s practiced.

If you were late that likely contributed to the slow climb. When they’re late they fly fast which means a reduced climb rate. If you were flying on one of the old 737-300’s that will also have contributed.

Turbulence was likely because of strongupper winds, I wasn’t in work today so haven’t looked but the other day they were blowing well over 100kts above FL280 with a fair amount of turbulence reported. Convective weather won’t have helped either.

Edited my post above.

I think that the weather at Manchester at that time would explain what you felt.

It's pretty difficult (almost impossible) to judge approach speed etc from the cabin.

Its about time the aviation industry accepted that teleprinters are as dead as the dinosaurs, and that it won't kill anyone to present weather information in a form that even non-Bletchley Parkers can understand.
