Im new here, looking for any advice. Got caught doing 102 M6 Southbound on 22nd December (Stuck northbound for 4 hours behind the A74 crash that day). I have my day in court on 9th May. I have a letter from my employer saying I need my licence, any tips/advice on what else to say, even how to say sorry. I expect points/pounds and maybe even a small ban, and I am not trying to get away with it, just want to ensure I do/say the correct stuff. Cheers Rothers

How were you caught? Laser or Vascar?

My Dad was caught a few years ago at 100 on the M4. (2 week ban and a £500 fine). I'd expect the same for you but it depends on your earnings!

Search the forums at www.pepipoo.com for "mitigation". You might find something of help there.

Well I suppose it could have been worse Craig, but to me £460 seems a lot of money simply for exceeding a speed limit (I assume safely) when other people seem to have shunts and received no punishment at all, at least at the hands of the law. It's a crackpot system IMHO.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

...and those shunts always seem to happen when the traffic is such that it is difficult to reach the speed limit, let alone exceed it! In many hundreds of thousands of miles of motorway driving I have never witnessed an accident when conditions allow faster speeds.

Seen plenty happen during the former set of conditions - mainly rear end shunts when the traffic suddenly stops, followed by incidents caused by poor lane changing and lack of observation - set to increase in my view with increasing over-emphasis on speed.

Totally undermines peoples' faith in the law if you ask me!

Anyhow - hope the week soon passes - and that it hasn't affected your job too badly. All the best.

It's just a tax really isn't it.

I don't see 103 as a problem and neither do the vast majority of people. It's allowed in other countries and doesn't cause problems.

well really you don't have it too bad over there. get caught doing 103mph here in NZ and you lose your licence on the spot for 6 months (or possibly only 3, not sure). As well as an $800 fine or whatever it is now. I think we may have lot less cameras than you though.

with our pathetic 'open road' speed limit of 100kph (60mph), and the fact that 50kph over any speed limit is an instant disqualification...yes thats right, if you get pulled over by yourself miles from anywhere with nobody else in sight doing 150kph you have to leave the car there and walk. I'm just glad I've never been caught.

Main effect of all this on me is that I keep more of my fun to gravel backroads, playing at being mr Mcrae...

anyway enough of a rant for now....hope I made someone feel better

Do you get your licence back with any existing points removed after a ban?

I got 6 pts + £300 (plus solicitors fees) for 101 in a 60 NSL, but in reality a 7 day ban with a clean licence would have been easier to deal with long term than driving on 9pts.

But I was told to expect a ban of 56 days poss reduced for pleading 'guilty' at the earliest opportunity ie not forcing the Trafpol to have a day off from scamming to appear in court (think of the lost revenue!).

Welcome to the world of the hardened criminal

I also don't think 103 is a problem if the car is driven at that speed in the right conditions and with a driver who has experience. I see the problem with people who drive at 50mph constantly in 60limits or 60mph in 70 limits etc and have no reactions - it's these people who create the bunching up of traffic and also who continue to drive at 50mph in 30limits (in my experience).

glad to hear that they didn't chuck a load of points at you too.

your wallet will take a bit of an extra bashing though over the next couple of years, when the insurance leeches get the mits on that ban.
