Audi A6 Allroad TDi vs BMW 330d

We're considering one of these two as a possible replacement to the stupid Volvo we currently have, but I am not at all knowledgeable about either, although I have heard about BMW swirl flaps being a potential worry, albeit apparently you can just remove them?
BMW is 2006, Audi is a 2.0 from 2007. Both around 70k miles, both around the same price, MOT history on both looks very tidy. Both are autos (and have to be due to medical reasons).
Within about a 30 mile range these 2 seem the best options so far. Initial impressions from adverts are they are both very tidy, visit to dealer will hopefully be this weekend.
What we're after:
- a good ride - the Volvo we currently have has silly thin sidewalls so even though the seats are superb, the ride is harsh.
- reliable, and potential bork-factor costs. Worst case, I've fitted plenty of replacement engines, but how available are spares.
What we don't care about:
- performance, so long as its not glacial
- MPG as car will only do 2 commutes per week, 40 miles including motorway each way.
- image / badge
I'm sick to death of the Volvo throwing up endless error codes and the bone-shaking ride, so does anyone have any strong views either way on either of the above 2 vehicles?
