Mainly health , with a bit of mechanics thrown in .
For the last couple of weeks or more , each time I stop in traffic , in a queue etc , I was getting a waft of exhaust fumes , mainly diesel , thought nothing of it, just the car in front , so turned fan off until moving off .
This got worst, and at the same time I was ending the day with a bit of a headache .
At the start of the BH break, the headache was not getting better , and whilst fiddling with other things on the van , I noticed the exhaust fumes were in fact coming from the van .
Bonnet up and I was greeted with a stench of exhaust fumes .At first I could not figure where exactly the fumes were coming from , leaking exhaust ? leaking EGR? Hummm
I then googled for suggestions , and one was to check injectors to see if a seal was failing . BINGO , one of the injectors was quietly chuffing away and leaking fumes , strangely, the performance of the van was unaffected, but the fumes were being drawn into the cab
Today I have run to and from dealers to get new seals , no fan running , window open , clear head .
So for the last few weeks I have been slowly gassing myself without realising it .

My Dad did something similar with one of those 3 bar gas bottle heaters on wheels. Used it as a office heater in a closed space and he was getting headaches etc. Turns out he was slowly topping himself with carbon monoxide poisoning.

What are the other possibilities? Sometimes I get a whiff when I use the fan. Just wonder if it's a similar issue.

This reminds me of watching a video recently on youtube about a guy in the US I think it was who started behaving strangely at work (mood swings/aggression etc) and was eventually fired.

His erratic behaviour continued to get worse which his family thought was strange as he'd never done anything like this before. One day he went missing and his car was found abandoned by the side of a quiet road with his body found nearby (can't remember what the cause of death was).

Anyway his family sorted his affairs and his mum and sister I think it was took his car back to the family home but immediately began to feel ill. Turns out the car was leaking huge amounts of gasses into the cabin which they think caused the guy's behaviour to change.

Flexipipe on exhausts fail and will result in cabin fumes

Thanks. Will this result in an MOT failure?

I got mine done before the MOT, I guess it could pass as the emissions test is not the same as on a petrol car. On mine most times you could really get the stench but only when the car was warm and had been moved. Makes you wonder how many people have this issue but don't realise it?

I have a very sensitive nose and sense of hearing in the car and can smell or hear when somethings not right - def worth an inspection

Yeah - got a sensitive nose, too.

I noticed it faintly for the last two years but only when stationary so it must be so faint that it's not being picked up by the MOT.
