Hi

Hoping more knowledgeable people can help.

I am seriously interested in a M3 Saloon Competition Pack. Having looked on the BMW used site, there are a few priced between £42k-£45k. Most with low mileage and 12-18 months old.

These have dropped considerably from new (or were big discounts being offered?), are they in for more drops over normal depn ?(I expect say £5k pa depreciation).

I have spoken to a number of dealers (Derby, Warrington and Sussex) and they have all spouted the same line, that they monitor the market closely and no discounts are available. Call me old fashioned but I expect discount/haggling on a £40k+ car?

Have others experienced the same and your view on depn over the next 2-3 years?

Thanks

The F8* M3/4 have been discounted and the prices now are falling, IF a dealer wants to shift a car he /they will be open to offers , better NO PX as they will arse rape you on RV of your PX, if you have cash your in a good position. Find the car you can "afford" and make a low offer and see what they come back with, you need to be prepared to walk, most come back with an offer LOWER than advertised, it depends on how much lower you expect as to weather you jump or not. good luck.

Does that mean you do not think now is a good time to buy if prices are falling (they always fall, but assume you mean faster than normal?)

Thanks

IF you get a good price in your mind buy one, I had two the none CP and the CP, I sold both before the big drop came in. They all loose money it just depends on you if you want one bad enough. All "M" cars take a hit, if you buy 2/3 years old you wont loose a lot.

The fact you owned a CP and non CP, is there much difference in reality? I will be doing 2-3 track days a year, but otherwise my daily drive (4k miles pa)

My thought being if not I could go for an older non CP own (say £35k) and hope the big depn hit is done?

Thanks

Go the old car, not much in it TBH and for the Miles you will do you'll not notice it.

Didnt they make major changes to traction controls/MDM... remember the early ones were reviewed as being quite snappy/unpredictable at the limit

Yea but the latest software puts that right. Limiting torque in 1 and 2 gears.

Stratstone (assuming that's the Derby dealer) do have a strict 'no negotiation' policy, I've tried before but got nowhere aside from a bit of a condescending rant about how their pricing works. In fairness their prices do seem realistic whenever I've looked - but the fact that I don't get a slight bit of satisfaction in having 'done a deal' means I'll probably never buy a car from them.

Sytner on the other hand have always been open to 'a deal' in my experience, I've never paid the sticker price on the three AUC's I've bought from them in the past. The Nottingham branch does get a steady stream of M3/4's coming in so maybe worth keeping an eye on their stock or speaking to a salesman with your requirements and asking him/her to keep an eye out for you as they are part of a fairly big group these days.

Be prepared to travel for the right car, I ended up in London (100 miles away) for my M5.

Good point, I've pretty much always sourced cars at distance as I'm a fussy bugger when it comes to spec and colour:

Nottingham > Stoke
Derby > Bradford
Derby > Tunbridge Well (a sub £30k and sub 30k miles CSL, would have gone anywhere in the country for that!)
Derby > Leicester
Cambridge > Peterborough
Nottingham > Coventry (bought on spec through Nottingham dealer though)

Thanks for the responses.

Still trying to negotiate but no joy at the moment. Looked at Synters and they are priced high against others which might explain why they negotiate.

Might just stick with M135!!

I know its all very dependant on car, PX and timing but I've had minimum of 2k, max 3.5k off used cars from the Sytner group if that helps give perspective. An alternative approach could be to identify a car you like within group stock, figure out what you'd want to pay (obviously what you consider fair market value) approach another dealer in the same group, give them the spec - but not the actual car, tell them your ideal max budget and see if they can join the dots and put together a more competitive deal to get your business, I sort of did this when buying my last car.

We're a month away from the quarter end, if you get all your ducks in a row and finance sorted you could be in a good position to strike a deal, again on my last purchase I signed on the dotted line deal at 12.55 new years eve where the impetus to hit quarter end and get down the pub was strong!

Look at the price cure of the E46 & E90 M3’s - the current model will be no different, they’ve made thousands.
Just look at the numbers for sale from main dealers at the mo. Bid hard & move on if 5hey won’t budge. They are not exactly in short supply.

Work on 50 per cent depreciation over 3 years (allowing on margin at sale time) and if you do better you are quids in.
