Porsche Boxster 987 2.7 MK1 - alternator/water pump problem
Discussion
Can anyone help? Recently my Boxster 987 developed a problem where the coolant was leaking. I took it to my regular garage where they diagnosed it as the water pump which was replaced. I got the car back with the air bag error light on the dash they said this was unrelated to what work had been carried out (bear in mind this light had never been on before) I took the car away drove 1 mile, called into a shop and the car then wouldn't start, this time showing a number off error lights on the dash (airbag, ABS, oil calibration etc) The garage tech came right out where I was told the car did not show any of there problems when it initially went in and he may have left a door open at some point but after the repair these error lights then showed so he jump started it and it came right, excluding the airbag light. He advised it would probably be the battery as the alternator was tested and was ok, he started the car using a machine and away I went, only for the same thing to happen when I next stopped the car. The car is now back in the same garage which is a repeatable one to be told it is alternator that now needs changed. They say the reason the alternator was deemed ok initially as the car was cold but once warm the voltage to the battery then fluctuates? I'm told the water pump leak may have got inside it whilst leaking and although they appreciate it may seem too much a coincidence to me, it has no relation to them changing the pump. Please may I ask.... coincidence or possibly not? Thankyou
