As a freelance developer, I am now in the position of having several months work booked for multiple clients, and I am starting to have problems keeping track of what I have promised, to whom and when.

I need some sort of online system where I can add clients, keep track of conversations, when to follow up, then book work for them with milestones and deadlines. All I currently use is Toggl for tracking my time. I looked at monday.com but it doesn't appear to offer any CRM, even though I only need simple functionality there I think (call x back in 2 weeks, spoke to y and agreed to have a proposal to them by z, that type of thing).

Any advice gratefully received!

FreeAgent, Podio, Basecamp, Trello.

Any of those are pretty good and should work in a way you want them to.

Thanks Jammy. I've used Trello and Basecamp, but hadn't seen them being much use for tracking communications with clients, but I'll look again and at the others.

I use the free version of capsule crm, you just bcc capsule in and it keeps all email between you and client/customer.

Indeed, a day book (a4 diary) or log book, I don't know what I'd do without mine.

Take it to meetings, it's much more professional than feckin about with your laptop when people are talking to you. you can put your coffee on it to.

I do the same in any face to face meeting, notepad and a pencil. An A4 Moleskine and a good pencil each last me around a year, and I keep the notepads when filled. However, the search function on my notepads doesn't work so well, and they don't link up to any follow-up emails and telephone calls. smile
