Worst Roads For Speed Cameras And Police Cars
Discussion
Any road in Cheshire.
If it looks a good 'driving' road then there's a good chance there will a mobile camera on a tripod in very difficult to spot position.
The A500, M6 to Nantwich link road is a hot favourite - brand new dual carriageway, frequented by Bentley's on test from Crewe. Bib/Scamera's are there a lot in the evening, when you simply can't see them against the western sky.

A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge.
Don't forget the new one they have put up about 100yards after the A11 filters onto the East bound A14 just before the BP services. still had an orange bage a few weeks ago but might be live now - old style rear plate catcher.
I went past it today. It's still bagged.
Forgive me for asking, I have been driving for 35 years, is there a problem driving at 70 mph on the M4, thats the speed limit isnt it?.
Whilst cameras are a source of revenue, and do not contribute to safer driving, I have absolutely no problem whatsoever doing 70. Between Aberdeen and Dundee the A90 has numerous cameras, so I sit there at a steady 70 no problem? Looking forward to some interesting comments on this one.

OK Colin, I've been driving for above 47 years now, and I do find it difficult to confine myself to 70 mph on motorways, or any other open road, for that matter. Unlike yourself I started out in an era when we had no overall speed limits, and I've never got used to the idea.
There are occasions when I start a journey with every intention of making it a leisurely run, but in many cases I find the speed creeps up to well above what I had intended. It still feels to me like easy progress, but unless I can remember to make frequent speedo checks I find the 'natural pace' factor is what governs things.
I know it indicates a lack of concentration and diligence on my part, but that's what usually happens. If I happen to be driving a car fitted with cruise control that does help of course, and I like those devices in general.
Best wishes all,
Dave.

I have no problem sticking to 70ish most of the time, but sometimes it is safer and/or more courteous to go a bit faster, in order to avoid spending too long in someone's blindspot, or to avoid boxing them in on a dual, or to reduce time exposed to danger in an overtake. Minor and temporary overspeeds that policement would take as aware driving policy and ignore as an infraction of the law. Cameras don't.
The BBC have taken a wonderfully light hearted approach to this. It's fantastic.

Would you feel the same if the speed limit was reduced to 50mph, or 40mph for environmental reasons for example?
Vipers said:It is sometimes far more desirable to be travelling at a speed greater than 70 (on a motorway or DC), for reasons including increased mental stimulation, time efficiency, and perhaps a little pleasure. We agree that doing so will not likely result with compromised safety of the driver, or other road users. We also agree that, in many instances, the use of cameras for rigorous speed enforcement does not yield a reduction of the accident rate. All these factors combined result with frustrated motorists; hence many choose to exceed the speed limit regardless.

I pass two speed cameras when I’m leaving Portsmouth, both of these do not present a solution to the underlying problem at each site.
One of these is at Anglesea Road, where pedestrians don’t bother with the pedestrian traffic lights (situated in both directions) and instead opt to climb over the central reservation, which is too low to stop them, but far too high for them to do it safely.
The other is at the mouth of the M275, where some idiotic pedestrians still choose to cross here rather than use the purpose built underpass.
I would suggest you avoid LANCASHIRE entirely. Esp. Blackpool prom (you won't want to speed there anyway, but it's close to a record for gatso's)
Preston new road- not many GATSO's (only a couple!) but plenty of traffic cop in back of van jobbies.
M55- good motorway, in fact its the only motorway in the country that directly serves a TOWN (blackpool) it's not too busy, but watch out for undercover cops.
