I have a Mercedes E320 cdi which has developed a vibration that is getting worse. Could it be the prop shaft? The car has done 140,000 miles. Any advice would be grateful.

You need to locate roughly where it's coming from is it under acceleration or all the time? It could be the Diff, broken gearbox mount etc, if you take it to a garage I bet they work it out within 5 minutes.

Thank you for your reply. It does it under low speed acceleration then disappears. The garage suggested changing the tyres!

I am pretty sure it is nothing to do with the tyres but will try it. Open to any other suggestions if anyone has any ideas.

When accelerating knock the car into neutral & see if you still have the vibration.

Torque Converter... you're at that mileage. It only happens at low speeds for a short duration?

Get it into a indy/dealer and ask them to cycle the lock up clutch on the torque converter, you will probably find when cycled the vibration disappears.

Expensive part and 6 hours labour to replace.

I too am suffering vibration issues but in a Q7, low speed vibration apparently point towards the propshaft, if it's a similar set up to Audi there's a propshaft bearing in a big rubber doughnut, if the bearing is shot it manifests itself in low speed vibration. When the propshaft sppeds up it apparently balances itself. What you feel is a resonation (apparently) I'm not a mechanic but I've googled the life out if vibration...
