They report two directions this could take. They claim the most likely is a lightweight spaceframe chassis developed with Alcoa, whilst a high revving 400bhp V6 has been under development for some time with the Maserati boys. This car would be mid-engined. The sketch on their site shows a modern interpretation of the old Dino. In fact, the front looks like a Mk1 Lotus Elise (not suprising, as Julian Thompson, the guy who designed the Elise, owns a Dino 246).

They then report on Autocar's "California" project, basing the new Ferrari on the Maserati 4200 replacement chassis. However, they claim development on the replacement 4200 has only stopped as it's run its course and the car was due to be launched at a motor show later this year. No confirmation either way though, so we'll just have to wait.

Personally, I love the idea of a cheap(er) front engined GT Ferrari (especially if it looked like the Autocar rendering), but not at the expense of the replacement Maserati. I'd love to see both make production.
