Michael Jacksons 60th
Discussion
Mods can you leave this in the lounge please.
I believe MJ would've been 60 today.
Someone said to me yesterday that it was a waste of his life passing away and it got me thinking, in fact arguing that how could it possibly be a waste.
The other person said they could have lived on and done so much but none of us know when we will meet our maker. In one year MJ did more than we will largely do in a lifetime, music, video, entertainment never seen before or since for me.
The greatest performer of all time (arguably) but a waste of life? Not for me.
What are others thoughts?

I'll breeze past my belief he was a predatory paedophile.
Waste of a life? He wasn't the first person to have a shorter than average life because of drugs, from what I can gather, a bit like Elvis he used his power and money to ensure that no one who'd dare say no to him, ever got close to him. Those he did allow in his circle at best didn't want to do or say anything to upset him and at worse were happy to allow him to self-destruct as long as they benefited from it.
Done so much more? Yeah, he could have lived another 30, 40, 50 years with luck and without the drugs and done a lot more personally, even forgetting the court cases his own terrible childhood probably earned him a long happy retirement, but he was never going to make another 'Thriller' or 'Off the Wall', his moment had long past and whilst he could always sell ticket and albums to the die hards, the court cases and lackluster later albums meant he was never going to be contemporary again.
I suspect if he hadn't died, there wouldn't have been such a fuss made of his Birthday this week, possibly because I'm sure more court cases would have followed.

he isn't 60, because he died 9 years ago.
Genuinely never saw all the fuss to be honest. I was in the Landy for 9 hours the other day and they played 60 of his best songs (I caught the top 20 or 30).
I think I like maybe 2.
Sure he was ok, but not worth all the fuss.
You're right. Don't know what all the fuss was about, he only made the biggest selling album of all time.Genuinely never saw all the fuss to be honest. I was in the Landy for 9 hours the other day and they played 60 of his best songs (I caught the top 20 or 30).

Why did you listen to 30 of his songs, surely you must've known you didn't like them?

Great post. No-one said he was 60, but here you are to tell us he's not 60, he's dead.
Thanks for clearing that up, it wasn't obvious from the rest of the thread.
And you didn't like him, therefore, he wasn't worth all the fuss.
Guys, wrap this one up, Gene has spoken!

fair enough - maybe I came across slightly more negative than intended!it's just people saying it's someone's 60th birthday isn't actually accurate when they didn't live past 51 - you know what I mean?
Maybe I'm just tired - off to ride the bike for a couple of hours to cheer up
Edited to add - the thread title does say Michael Jackson's 60th !

His life was wasted whilst he was alive.
Explain? Curious. Whatsmyname said:
From the outside it probably looks like he had a great life but really, do you think he was truly happy? From being abused as a child to multiple child molestation lawsuits, drugs, addictions, more lawsuits, financial screwups and so on?
Troubled, yes. Messed up, yes. But it can't be said his life was wasted. He brought pleasure to millions and will be remembered (for the right reasons) long after we're all dead and forgotten about. Unfortunately he'll also be remembered for the wrong reasons, but I don't think he wasted his life. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
