K series HG change - head bolt question
Discussion
Quick (and possibly stupid) question:
The headbolts on a rover k series - do they in fact run right through the head and block and secure themselves into the oil ladder?
Does this mean that is you overtighten a bolt, you have not ruined the block, you're just ruined the ladder?
And yes, I'm asking in advance. Yours who needs a better torque wrench and may be borrowing one.
Thank you kindly.

Yes they go straight through the block to the oil ladderThe headbolts on a rover k series - do they in fact run right through the head and block and secure themselves into the oil ladder?

The way to do it is 20nm, then 4 lots of 90 degree, so just grab a piece of paper an mark every time you do a turn so you dont forget where you are.
I very much doubt you will ruin the ladder unless you torqued it till the threads stripped, but you would have to be very silly to do that.
Make sure you check liner heights, to ensure they are all at 0.1mm proud of the block
Cheers both. Yet to remove the head, so unsure what liners are doing, but given I stripped a water rail bolt on the block of a k series before, I thought it was better to check. That was a proper ballache, though it transpired the thread was pre-buffered. I just don't want to turn my car into an immovable object.
