I'm looking to buy a commute shed - all looks good, except...

to quote...

" WOULD BENIFIT A NEW AIR-MASS METER FROM £20 ON EBAY,THIS CAR WILL NOT REV PAST 2000 RPM ON A GOOD DAY IF NOT LESS,ENGINE SOUNDS GOOD"

run away or not ?

priced cheap

Depends how cheap and how good the rest of the car is (see other thread) but I'd run away personally. If the MAF is bad disconnecting it should allow it to rev. I imagine there is more at fault here, would need codes read.

I would hazard a guess and say definitely not the maf at fault. May be an air mass fault, but due to a major air leak or something.

Even if it was the maf - avoid the cheap ones as they are useless

Agree with both of the above ^ and agree with after-market MAF's they are rubbish far better off with a known good s/hand unit than any pattern MAF its in their design to be accurate and stable and this is where the cheap ones fall flat with inferior components

If it only costs £20 to fix with a part from e-bay, why has the seller not fixed it?

Exactly - it's like all those cars that only need the air-con recharged, or have 3 weeks MOT "but it'll pass no problem". banghead

thanks all
you echo my thoughts

does my nut in, all this 'just needs a £20 part from eBay ' and it will be perfect

then bloody well pony up the £20, and get it fitted - you might actually sell it ! if thats all that is wrong... which I doubt

The search continues
