Hoping for a few thoughts...I have read all the previous posts on Light Conversions. My car was keyed a few weeks ago and I took it to Ewelme and thought I may as well get a front end respray while it was in. Turns out that my light pods are totally bonded on rather than bolted. So the only way to get them off is to smash 'em off. Now I am faced with the dilema of which lights to put back on. I really like the orignal lights, but whole heartedly admit they are rubbish at serving their purpose. Then there are all the different versions of the updated lights, Speed 6, Speed 12, Type R etc. I think I like the speed 12 lights, but am torn between updating and just trying to get new 'originals' put on. So basically would really like someone to convince me of what to do?

Speed 12, definately. Just a completely independant opinion from someone with no reason to prefer one over the others, honest.

Or you could go for the old skool lights, but upgrage them, either with rewiring and PIAA bulbs (or similar), or with xenon conversions (like the Porsche 911 boys do).

This is the thing - I had never thought about it because I like the original style and think they sit well with the lines of the car. But now I am being forced to make a decision about what sort of lights I would like to have on the cerb and it's giving more of a headache then the other major choice I had to make today....

I think the Type R is slight overkill (sorry Eddie!! ) and prefer the Speed 6 and 12.
On a slightly different tack do people think it will enhance the resale value by updating the lights rather replacing originals? Only a secondary point but maybe worth considering...

Just remember all those 911s in the 80s that tried to emulate later modele. 5 yrs later they looked silly, couldnt sell them and everyone wanted originality. Cerberas are fast moving towards classic status and originality becomes all important.
IF you want later lights, buy a later car. IMHO.

Investment and resale doesn't really come into the equation for me - running costs are too high and out weigh any marginal increase in future resale value.

I say go with your heart, and go for the look "YOU" prefer (if you can afford it).

Not sure how to post pictures so if you look at my photo in my profile you will see that I have kept the original lights but had them blended in for that smoother look. Subtle but different.

That's nice Paul! As you say, subtle and I guess fairly unique as it's can't be a common approach...

I am quite a fan of this look actually - going to investigate it now...

Cheers..

edited to add - what's the score with this setup if you break the lens? Does it mean you have to smash it all?

I agree with gazzab. At some point I will need a front end spray on mine due to stone chips, etc and was toying with blended pod types. But have now decided to keep with current ones to keep originality, same with the wheels I’m having the 17’s refurbed rather going for the spiders. However, to contradict myself, I do like pilmar’s original/blended lights, so may go for something like that.

Good question though, how would you change the lens?

I like this look, don't know how hard it would be to achieve?

And better for aerodynamics, might make 170 come quicker! I was hoping to be able to get something like this with the new style lenses you see on modern cars which look a lot more expensive that the old glass things on the cerbera. There was a picture of a chimera with them on on the TVR forum and someone said that the latest chimeras came with them, which sort of means a mould/manufacturer may exists?
