Government child trust fund - £1.6k may be sitting unclaimed

When my son was born, we were given a £250 cheque to start a trust fund but we never lodged it, preferring to do our own private fund.
The government lodged it into accounts anyway, hundreds of thousands of kids accounts were opened, left accruing and some pots are now worth in the region of £1.6k (a further £250 Was added at the age of 7 too)
My young lad is only 12 so he would have missed the 2nd payment at age 7 due to rules changing , but still, probably over £500 by now.
