987 Cayman oil level indicator
Discussion
Hi, I’m looking for some advice on my 987 caymans oil level indicator. The display when ignition is on was previously hit or miss, showing either empty or 3/4 full even with exact same conditions ( cold on drive, up to temp parked in same flat space). Last month or so the indicator has been showing below minimum mark and flashing, I have added up to a litre of oil and yet it has not shifted. has anyone experienced anything similar or have any advice on what to do next. Thanks In advance
that doesn't sound right - off to OPC/dealer for a checkup I reckon.
my 987.2 boxster oil indicator is very steady. I drive it until temp above 80 (fully warmed up) and when I get home park it on my flat driveway, let it idle for 10 seconds or so, then check the oil with the control stalk before turning off. It's only showed me one notch drop in about 400 miles use - and the indicator is very consistent. also I'm told it's good to drive last little distance home before parking up without ragging it too much, let things cool off a bit and settle down - then do the oil reading while idling as above. if yours is reading strange then definite call to OPC
are you sure you've not got a leak somewhere? stick a sheet of clean cardboard under it when you park up and check it after a few hours for oil marks in case you don't see them on your drive otherwise.
if it really is showing an oil alarm after 1 litre of oil then I wouldn't drive it until I had a chat with my dealer/opc - I would think twice about letting it idle in my driveway to get an oil measurement too - if it really is leaking or oil is warning level then best get some advice before doing that.
